RLC and local dealership collaborate to enhance Auto Tech education

December 4, 2023

INA, Ill. (Dec. 4, 2023)—Lemond’s Chrysler Center in Fairfield partnered with Rend Lake College to provide the Automotive Technology department some of the newest vehicles on the market today to provide students with valuable hands-on training.

In the world of Automotive Technology, advancements are being made every two or three years, and one of RLC’s core values is to provide a well-rounded, authentic educational experience to students so that they are best prepared to enter the working field after graduation.

With support from RLC President Terry Wilkerson, the 2023 Silverado will be leased out to the Auto Tech program every few months for a year’s time. The students will have the opportunity to study the mechanics of these vehicles so that they stay up to date with the current technology coming out today.

“This is a great resource for the kids,” Jay Copple said. “We want to do everything we can to give them a leg-up going into the business.”

Wilkerson said, “The newest and best technology should be available for all our students. With the advancements made to the Agronomy Innovation Center over the past year, I asked what other ways we could make improvements for programs to stay relevant to the growing industry. With the new truck that has been leased to the Automotive Technology department, our students will get hands-on training with vehicles they are more likely to encounter out on the job somewhere. We want Rend Lake College to be the stepping stone for students’ career and educational goals. Every student who goes through our programs should have access to modern equipment to get the most experience they can while they’re here, so they’re better equipped to tackle their futures outside of RLC.”

The Auto Tech program at RLC is nationally accredited through the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation. The ASE Education Foundation is an organization that certifies mechanics through 8 tests, which the Auto Tech programs prepares them for.
