RLC and SIC partner to offer SafeLandUSA oil and natural gas training

August 21, 2013

INA, Ill. (Aug, 21, 2013) - Rend Lake College’s Applied Science and Technology Department is joining forces with Southeastern Illinois College to bring new training for those in the oil and natural gas industry.

The training will be offered by PEC, an organization accredited by SafeLandUSA to provide training and orientation for the oil and gas contractor workforce. This new curriculum is designed to take the place of multiple orientations to give students information on safety issues, ranging from rigging, fall protection, hazmat, emergency response, welding safety, fire protection, and many more.

SafeLandUSA training meets both API RP 75 and API RP T-1 requirements, and provides a basic understanding at an awareness level of certain general safety information that an employee should know before entering a company facility and while performing their assigned work duties. Over 25 of the leading oil and gas operators accept this orientation as it meets their requirements. The cost of each orientation program is $95 for the 8-hour class.

RLC will host three training classes: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the RLC MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Hamilton County Senior High School in McLeansboro; and 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Wayne City High School in Wayne City. To register for these training classes, call 618-437-5321, Ext. 5804, or email mining_tech@rlc.edu.

SIC will offer two additional training classes. The first will be a two-part class, lasting from 8 a.m. to noon on two Saturdays, Sept. 14 and 21, at the David L. Stanley Carmi-White County Center. Registration deadline for this class is Sept. 4.

A final training class will be held from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Workforce and Illinois Small Business Development Center in Harrisburg. Registration deadline is Oct. 1. To register for the trainings with SIC, call 618-252-5001, Ext. 5, or email debbie.hadfield@sic.edu.
