Board of Trustees Special Meeting - October 18, 2024
On Oct. 18, 2024 members of the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve a construction bid of $6.25 million to build the new Banterra Sports Complex at RLC. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the project will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Waugh Gymnasium on the Ina Campus. Board members are pictured above with administration from the college. Meeting Highlights
Under New Business, the Board:
- Granted permission to accept a bid for the Rend Lake College James "Hummer" Waugh Gymnasium remodel and addition of the Banterra Sports Complex, effective October 18, 2024.
RATIONALE: In response to the advertisement for competitive bids, the college received six bids. Based on the bid specifications, Bevis Construction, Inc. of Mt. Vernon was the low bidder at $6,252,000. This project will be funded in part by the RLC Foundation, The Game Plan, and Capital Campaign. The Foundation has committed to fundraising a minimum of $2 million of the total project. According to Dean of Facilities Management and Campus Operations Donnie Millenbine, the project is expected to be finished in roughly 10 months. Board member Tony Wielt made the motion to accept the bid with Student Trustee Wyatt Hamson seconding the motion. - Granted permission to create a stipend position for Interim Lead Child Care Provider, Children’s Center, as presented, effective October 18, 2024.
RATIONALE: This position is necessary to compensate for additional duties performed during a temporary vacancy in a lead teacher position due to a medical leave of absence. - Granted permission to advertise to accept bids to replace the bleachers at James "Hummer" Waugh Gymnasium, effective October 18, 2024.
RATIONALE: The current bleachers are aging and becoming outdated. With the new addition of the Banterra Sports Complex and Gymnasium renovation this is the ideal time to update the bleachers.
