INA, Ill. (September 12, 2022) — Do you enjoy spending your free time aiming for high scores, getting lost in a virtual world, or using strategy to win in video games? Rend Lake College students now have the opportunity to take their video game passion and compete with the new eSports Gaming Team.
"We have a lot of different ways for students to show off their video gaming skills," said RLC eSports Coach mark Jornd. "We need players from all different types of games to create a strong club. Students joining can expect to play various video games. Some students may play this game or that game. So it is nice to have players covering all gaming areas."
"I think this is a great opportunity for students to socialize and share common interests," said Jornd. "I have been playing videos myself since the days of Pong, and I know how rewarding it can be to meet up with others who play the same games as you."
The club is not yet NJCAAE sanctioned, but Jornd believes it could be on the horizon with some interest in the program. "We planned pre-covid but had to shut it down," Jornd said. "Now that we are back, we have seen some interest in the program but could still use some more gamers if we want to be serious competitors."
How to Sign Up
Students of RLC that enjoy video games on a leisurely or competitive basis are encouraged to sign up for the club. They can complete the form at rlc.edu/esports while logged into their warriormail account. Over 30 students have already signed up to be a part of the eSports club. "With more people in the club, we can bring that much more experience to competitions," Jornd said. "It will allow us to have experts in all different types of games."
