An online resource for the medial assistant community has ranked Rend Lake College’s Medical Assistant Program as one of the 15 best programs in Illinois.
The website medicalassistantadvice.com, established in 2012 with the sole aim of providing accurate information to medical assisting students and professionals, ranked RLC at No. 9 in the state for 2020’s list of Best Illinois Medical Assistant Schools.
To achieve this ranking, the website’s editorial board factored in:
- Graduation rate
- Net price
- Admission and retention rate
- The reputation the college carries on the web
Medical assistants take on several duties in their line of work, such as:
- Taking and recording patient histories,
- Scheduling appointments,
- Preparing specimens for laboratory tests,
- Helping doctors with examinations,
- Taking vitals
It is a good fit for people interested in health care who do want to treat or diagnose patients. And the job outlook is positive, with the industry expected to grow by nearly 20% over the next decade. RLC offers both an Associate in Applied Science Degree and an Occupational Certificate in the Medical Assistant Program.

After graduation, students can sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants examination. RLC’s Medical Assistant Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board.
