Summer camps are back on campus! Rend Lake College is offering a variety of Summer Kids Camps that will help your children have fun while they learn something new.
RLC’s Community and Corporate Education is offering some familiar favorites as well as a couple new ones this year.

The 2021 RLC Summer Kids Camps are:
Garbage Pail Science, grades 1-3, June 21-24, Monday through Thursday, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.; grades 4-6, July 19-22, Monday through Thursday, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Camp Instructor: Reba Boyer; Cost: $60
No homework, no paper work - just lots and lots of awesome science experiments using stuff and junk. If you think science is boring and hard to understand, this class will change your mind forever. But don’t blink; you might miss one of the amazing scientific reactions. Folder of handouts will allow you to repeat the activities at home.
Music & Movement, grades PreK-3, June 21-24, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon.
Grades 4-6, June 21-24, Monday through Thursday, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Camp Instructor: Katie Keown; Cost: $60
This camp will introduce kids to an active lifestyle as well as music. Campers will participate in several different types of physical activities and learn about music all while having fun! Please wear play clothes and tennis shoes.
Let’s Get Fit, grades 4-6, June 21-24, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon
Camp Instructor: Laura Johnston; Cost: $60
Let’s Get Fit will show kids that being active is fun! This camp will introduce kids to an active lifestyle. Campers will participate in several different types of physical activities and learn about nutrition all while having fun! Please wear play clothes, sunscreen and tennis shoes.
RLC Bakeshop, grades 4-8, June 21-24, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Camp Instructor: Joy Fitts and Angelina Mabrey; Cost: $75
Kids, are you interested in learning how to run your own bakeshop? Join RLC professional pastry chef Jeff Fairbanks to learn skills in baking and pastry techniques. Campers will work alongside Chef Jeff and RLC pastry students during the morning sessions to create delicious bakery items. In the afternoon, campers will meet with the RLC Career Tech Support Team to learn about planning, cost analysis, production, marketing and sales. The final afternoon, kids will get to experience a Grand Opening Ceremony for the RLC Bakeshop.
Career Technical Exploration Camp, grades 7-12, Monday, June 22, 8 a.m. to noon
Camp Instructor: Chris Edwards; Cost: free
What is a Man-in-the-Middle Attack? Learn why public WiFi is not safe. Is there a safe way to use public WiFi? So, just what is a VPN? In addition to exploring computer science, campers will discover how to fly a professional quality drone taking still images as well as 4K film footage.
Blastoff!, grades 4-7, July 19-22, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon.
Camp Instructor: Greg Hollmann; Cost: $75
Turn an ordinary summer into another adventure while attending this ultimate science camp. Participants will build, decorate, and launch their own model rockets that reach heights up to 1,000 feet. In addition to building and launching the rockets, participants will view videos produced by NASA, which highlight our explorations on other planets; discuss the possibility of life beyond Earth; and participate in activities that bring the solar system to scale. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to stimulate and educate young minds!
Bertie Ham’s Chefs of Tomorrow, grades 6-8, meets Aug. 2-5, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon
Camp Instructor: Jeff Fairbanks; Cost: $75
Each day is a new culinary adventure as each camper learns the basics to begin cooking safely. Campers learn how to cook lunch for themselves and maybe even surprise others with their cooking skills! Campers will be taking home samples of their creations. Bertie Ham was well known for her love and passion for education, cooking, and cooking. This camp is being sponsored in Bertie’s memory, by her family and friends. Each camper will receive some of Bertie’s famous recipes.
