RLC students return "Flat Stanley" to local second graders (standalone photos)

(Nov. 18, 2016) - After a month of preparation by several hundred First Year Experience (FYE) orientation students at Rend Lake College, second grade classrooms across Southern Illinois have a special book present just in time for the holidays. RLC student Mallory Shreves of Benton, LEFT, helped hand out Flat Stanley books in Mt. Vernon Thursday and spent time talking with two students about their unique books, created with photos of campus. Click on the image for a larger view.

The second graders sent their Flat Stanley to an RLC student in October, who then took Stanley out and about on campus to create the story about when Stanley went to college. (Nov. 18, 2016) - Earlier this week, Rend Lake College students, including Chase Ragland of Sesser pictured here, also traveled to Pinckneyville to hand out completed books to students. While in the schools, the children asked RLC students many questions about college, like how many buildings there are, what sports they play, and how much homework they have to complete. (Nov. 18, 2016) - Marion Debove, Rend Lake College golfer and resident of Belloy-en-France, shares her experiences making the Flat Stanley book for a student in Pinckneyville. The FYE orientation classes created the books as part of their final service project.
