INA, Ill. (Sept. 19, 2016) - After years of hard work, Brooke May, Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center (RLCFCC) Director, earned the Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Illinois Director Credential Level III earlier this month, with a particular focus on the RLCFCC community.
The Gateways to Opportunity credentials are recognized by the state of Illinois and are awarded through the Illinois Department of Human Services, Bureau of Child Care and Development. They represent an important step in allowing state agencies to recognize excellence within specific program requirements.
May said her focus over the last couple years has been on those she serves daily in the RLCFCC.
“As part of the online classes, I had to document an area of specialized expertise, which I chose supporting my teaching staff and working with parents,†said May. “This is how I contribute to the field of early childhood education every day from the Children’s Center. After a review panel evaluated my contributions, they awarded me with my Level III credential, and I am so pleased to finally have this, the highest credential a director can earn, under my belt.â€
In addition to the Illinois Director credential, professionals can earn the Early Childhood Education credential and the Infant Toddler credential, based on the education level, knowledge, skills, and experience of the practitioners or administrators.
May has served as the Director of the RLCFCC full-time since July of 2010. She holds two associate degrees from RLC and a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. To learn more about Gateways to Opportunity, visit www.ilgateways.com.
