INA, Ill. (April 22, 2016) - Kim Rogers of Mt. Vernon lost nearly 40 pounds on her way to becoming The Recreational Center's first champion of the "Rec the Scale Challenge" at Rend Lake College. On Friday, she was presented her $400 prize by Director of The Rec Tyler O'Daniel.
Rec the Scale was a big hit on campus with about 25 participants. The competition used percentages rather than total pounds lost to determine the winner. But it didn't matter. Rogers took out the competition in both categories. Coming in second was Abby Etnier and third was Natalie Brown.
"It has been a fun 12 weeks since the beginning of the REC the SCALE Challenge," O'Daniel posted on The Rec's Facebook page (The Rec at Rend Lake College). "We are very proud of all of the participants who made positive lifestyle changes and we hope that you can continue what you have already started. We are here to help any of you reach your goals, but it all starts with YOU!"
The Rec and colllege Aquatics Center were free to use during the challenge. Summer semester memberships are just $120 ($30/month) and includes access to both facilities. The Rec features free weights, circuit training and a wide array of cardio equipment, in addition to an indoor tennis court, Olympic configuration running track and hitting cages on turf. The Aquatics Center has a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a 10-foot diameter whirlpool and a 10 x 20-foot hydro therapy pool. The lap pool has a ramp for the physically challenged and both pools are equipped with stairs and a hydraulic chair lift to assist patrons into the water. Included are shower and locker room facilities, a changing room for elderly or physically challenged individuals who need assistance by a member of the opposite sex and a common lobby entrance adjacent to Waugh Gymnasium.
