Leigh Ann Thomas has been named the June 2021 Rend Lake College Veteran of the Month.
Thomas, who lives in Macedonia, was in the Air Force from 2008 to 2016. She decided to join the service because of the various opportunities, experiences and benefits it provides.
“I didn’t know what I wanted to go to school for and didn’t think I would take college classes seriously,” Thomas said.
Thomas said her time in the Air Force gave her the structure she would need before she enrolled at RLC.
“The Air Force helped prepare me for college and taught me the importance of time management, organization and having a strong support,” she said. “It can be very challenging to balance everything in life between family, friends, work and school. The online and 8-week course have been extremely beneficial in allowing me to complete my degree at Rend Lake.”
Thomas currently works as a Park Ranger with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. She is studying business because she loves to learn new things.
“I enjoy helping others and learning different processes and procedures,” she said.
In her spare time, Thomas enjoys spending time with her family outside, doing things like camping, hunting, fishing, biking and walking trails.
