INA, IL (Oct. 15, 2021) -- Rend Lake College will pay special tribute to the Indian holiday Diwali during a presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 20, in the RLC Theater from 1-2 p.m.

Southern Illinois University-Carbondale’s Indian Student Association President Mandeep Redhu and crew will delve into the history of Diwali, the cultures that celebrate the holy festival, what the festival represents, and also provide a demonstration of the process of selecting a lantern and lighting it.

“Diwali is a festival of lights that is celebrated globally every autumn," RLC Foundation Assistant Director Kelsey Page said. "Each year, different cultures celebrate Diwali by lighting thousands of lanterns to signify the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance."

Diversity Week begins Oct. 18 and continues through Oct. 22. It is a week of cultural and international themed events with the purpose of better understanding cultural and philosophical differences. Events include guest speakers, panel discussions and films.
