RLC ANNOUNCES EXCITING LINE-UP OF SUMMER KIDS CAMPS

INA - Area students are invited to turn an ordinary summer into an extraordinary adventure with Rend Lake College Kids Camps. With a wide selection of Summer Camps, there is sure to be something for every camper.

CAMPS ON THE REND LAKE COLLEGE CAMPUS
**NEW** ANIMAL SCIENCE - Whether kids live on a farm or in town, if they love animals this camp is for them. Campers will learn about the major animal groups, construct animal-related projects, explore animal activities, and conduct experiments (including dissecting a frog). For grades 1-3, this camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Monday - Thursday, June 21-24. For grades 4-6, this camp will be held from 1-4p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 21-24. The camp will be held in Vocational Building Room 118. The camp leader is Leslie Prior and the registration fee is $55.

AQUA SPORTS - This camp is all about playing sports and going swimming! Campers will learn the skills, techniques, and rules of water polo, basketball, golf, and other water games. Kids should bring their swimsuits and get ready for a splashin' good time! Campers must be able to swim 25 yards and jump in 7-foot water without fear. For grades 4-7, this camp is from 1-4 p.m. Monday - Thursday, June 14-17, in the RLC Aquatics Lobby. Camp leader is Laura Johnston and the cost is $55.

BLASTOFF! 8 - Kids will turn an ordinary summer into an adventure while attending this ultimate science camp. Participation in this camp will help students in developing a strong sense of self and connection to their environment. Each child will create his or her own rocket. This is an incredible opportunity to stimulate and educate young minds and bodies! The camp will be held from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, for grades 4-7. The class will be held in Science Building Room 106 with camp instructor Greg Hollmann. The registration cost is $75.

**NEW** BUG'S LIFE - What do bugs have to do with plants? Campers will learn how insects help plants grow, and will discover the environment through songs and activities. Outside hikes for exploring and collecting will let kids examine plants and insects both indoors and out. There are two sessions to choose from for grades 1-3. The first camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 14-17, and the second will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 21-24. Both camps will be in the Applied Science Center Room 104. The camp leaders are Babs Travous, Linda Clevenger, and Sandy Clanin; registration fee is $55.

CAKE CREATIONS - Parents and caregivers will join with their favorite "little friend" to create cupcakes, a cake, and participate in activities with a "Fourth of July" theme. Children will have fun using icing, cookies, candies and their imagination to add features to their cakes. The camp will conclude with a parade around campus passing out some of their creations. Bring an apron or old shirt to camp. All tools and supplies will be provided. This camp is from 9:30-11:30a.m. Thursday, July 1, for grades Pre-K and Kindergarten, in the Learning Resource Center Children's Library. The camp leader is Beth Mandrell and the cost is $19.

**NEW** CHEFS OF TOMORROW - To be the next Emeril Lagasse or Rachel Ray, you first have to learn how to boil water! RLC Culinary Arts instructors Chef Brian Kalata and Chef Loughton Smith will teach campers food and kitchen safety, how to use kitchen tools and measurements, how to read and follow recipes, food preparation, time management, and organization in the kitchen. Campers will learn how to cook family meals by preparing a full meal each day from beginning to end and will take home samples of their creations. This camp is designed for students ages 12-15. It will be held from noon- 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, in the Student Center in the Culinary Arts Lab (Room 103). The registration fee is $75.

**NEW** COMEDY CAMP - Funny how much fun you can have when you're learning to be funny! Campers will learn to master the secrets of sketch and improv comedy, as well as theatrics, through skits and games with RLC Theater Instructor Tracey Webb. At week's end, campers will display their newly enhanced focus, creativity, confidence, teamwork, performance skills and sense of humor in a show for family and friends. For grades 4-8, this camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, in the RLC Theater. The cost is $55.

COMPETITIVE EDGE SWIM CAMP - This camp will cover the proper mechanics for swimming competitive breaststroke. Breaststroke drills will be emphasized daily along with starts and turns. Campers must be 7 years old and able to swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke. This camp is from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, June 22-24, for grades 1-8. Camp will be held in the Aquatics Center Lobby with leader Laura Johnston. Cost of the camp is $45.

**NEW** EXCESS ENERGY - Relays, an obstacle course, dancing, and lots of fun activities energetic kids will like will be offered both indoors and out during this camp. The emphasis will be on fun and fitness, not competition. Campers should wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes. This camp is for grades 1-3 and will be held from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, in the RLC Sports Center with camp leader Kelly Swift. The cost of camp is $55.

GARBAGE PAIL SCIENCE - No homework, No paperwork - just lots and lots of awesome science experiments using stuff and junk. If you think science is boring and hard to understand, this class will change your mind forever. Don't blink though; you might miss one of the amazing, scientific reactions. Designed for grades 4-6, this camp will be held from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 14-17, in Science Building Room 106 with camp leader Reba Boyer. Camp cost is $55.

**NEW** HORSEBACK RIDING - Campers can put on their jeans and boots and ride the Trails of Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park! Kids will be matched to a suitable mount for this three-day camp and will learn the proper techniques for saddling, bridling and riding horses. Riding helmets are not required, but are suggested, and will not be provided by the stable. Campers will need to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and must bring their own beverages and snack each day. Class size is limited to seven campers and is for ages 10-14. This camp will meet from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday-Thursday, June 22-24, at Rend Lake Stables in Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. The camp leader will be J.R. Mowry. The cost is $130.

INSIDE-OUT COMPUTER KIDS - Discover your computer from the inside out during this three-day camp. Find out all about a base system, then connect, install and configure the elements necessary to get your computer up and running. Now here's the best part, once the install and configuration is done, campers get to take their computers home! This camp is from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, June 22-24, for grades 4-7, in Advanced Technology Center Room 163. Cost: $75.

MARTIAL ARTS CAMP - Discover martial art training and improve your health and coordination while learning to work with others. Practice basic calisthenics and stretches and experience beginning stances. Learn fundamental blocks, punches and falls that can be combined into self-defense techniques. Following your mastery of falling safely on mats, you will begin to execute throwing techniques. By the end of this camp, you will feel fit and strong. Campers should come wearing loose fitting clothes and participate in bare feet. This camp is from 9 a.m.-Noon Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, for grades 1-7, in the RLC Sports Center with camp leaders Lou and Al Campbell. Camp cost is $55.

**NEW** OUTDOORSMAN CAMP - Campers will discover the skills of the naturalist, tracker, scout and hunter at this camp. They will also discover mapping, survival, animal identification, tracking and field dressing abilities. Campers should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes (no sandals), insect repellant, and dress for the weather. Camp will be held outdoors, rain or shine. For grades 4-7, the camp will be held 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 14-17, outside the Historic Schoolhouse. Randy Cordray will be the camp leader. The cost of the camp is $65.

**NEW**OUTERSPACE ART CAMP - Campers will explore outer space fact and fiction as they create art that is out of this world. Their imaginations will blast off as they draw, paint, and collage outer space art while exploring galaxies of fun! For grades 1-3, the camp will be held from 1-4 p.m. and for grades 4-6, the camp will be held from 9 a.m.-Noon. Both will be held Monday-Thursday, June 14-17, in Vocational Building Room 118 with camp leader Michelle Montgomery. The camp cost is $55.

**NEW** SIGN-TASTIC: BEGINNING SIGN LANGUAGE - Campers will learn the basics of American Sign Language. This fun and interactive class for beginners will teach kids how to talk with their hands. The focus will be on conversational signing, including finger spelling and everyday signs, colors, animals and greetings. For grades 1-3, camp will be held from 1-4 p.m., and for grades 4-6, camp will be held from 9 a.m.-noon. Both camps will be held Monday-Thursday, June 21-24, in Science Building Room 132 with camp leader Amy Richards. Cost of the camp is $55.

WEIRD SCIENCE - Kids will see volcanoes erupt before their very eyes. Experiment with magnets, bubbles, Gak, slime and other mysterious things. Campers can join in for a week of discovery during this hands-on science camp! It will be held from 9 am-noon Monday-Thursday, June 21-24, or from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, at RLC's One-Room Schoolhouse, for Grades 1-3, with camp leader Cathy Sanders. Camp cost is $55.

WEIRD SCIENCE 2 - If campers liked Weird Science, they'll love Weird Science II. More experiments, more messes, and lots more fun! Campers will discover scientific reactions using pulleys, hammering, measuring, problem solving and parachute making. All experiments are hands-on and totally awesome! This camp is from 1-4 p.m. Monday- Thursday, June 21-24, or from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 28-July 1, for grades 1-3, at RLC's One-Room Schoolhouse with camp leader Sanders. Camp cost is $55.

Parents can extend their camper's fun by letting them attend both a morning and afternoon camp session. RLC staff will collect campers at the end of their morning camps, supervise their lunch, and drop them off with their afternoon leaders. Any camper, any age on any day can request a supervised lunch during camp. The cost is only $3 per day for this feature. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch and a drink / bottled water each day. Parents may collect their camper at 4 p.m. following their afternoon session. CAMPS IN MT. VERNON
STRIKE A POSE - Girls will have fun learning about the latest fashions and trends and make themselves feel just like models! Campers will discover the basics: skin care, make-up, nail care, the latest hair styles, poise and etiquette. They will develop self confidence, personality and social skills at this all-day camp. At the end of the day, campers will introduce the "new" them to family and friends during a runway walk. Camp fee includes lunch. Campers are to bring their favorite outfit. This camp is from 9 a.m.-3p.m., Thursday, July 1, for grades 1-7, at Studio RLC in the RLC MarketPlace with the Studio RLC Style Team. Cost for the camp is $39.

CAMPS IN PINCKNEYVILLE
**NEW**BIOTECH CAMP - Campers will experience four days of exciting hands-on activities revolving around biotechnology. They will learn the skills of a scientist by building models and solving mysteries. Exploration of DNA, protein, genes and bio-fuel are just a few of the discoveries in this scientific camp. For grades 1-3, the camp will meet from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 14-17. For grades 4-6, the camp will meet from 1-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday, June 21-24. Both camps will be held at the RLC Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus in Room 101 with camp leader Becky Thompson. The cost of the camp is $55.
