Nagreski seated; Chullen 'one of finest'

Freshman Adam Nagreski officially replaced fellow Benton resident Cody Chullen as the Student Trustee following last month's student-body election. Chullen, a sophomore who is expected to graduate in May, was praised by Randall Crocker, Board of Trustees Chair. Crocker told Chullen, "You have been one of the finest ones (student representatives) since I've been associated with the Board." Those sentiments were echoed later by other Trustees. "It has been a great experience," Chullen repeated himself. "I really appreciate everything . . . everyone. Thank you very, very much."

Youngblood new Educational Technology Specialist

Appointed Evan Youngblood as a full-time Educational Technology Specialist in the Information Technology Department. The nontenure-track, 50-week contract starts June 1. Youngblood has been an Assistant System Administrator with Bank of Carbondale since June, 2003, and owns his own company, Megabytes Computer Consulting. He also has four years of experience in Electronics Sales for Wal-Mart. Youngblood is an Information System Technology currently at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Electronics Prof. Robert Varis retiring after 25 years

Accepted with regret the retirement resignation of Robert Varis, Electronics Professor, effective May 14, and approved payment of approximately $11,388.80 (less any applicable payroll liabilities) for the purchase of 30.21 sick days. Varis has worked at the college full-time since August, 1979.

Longtime employee Roger Treece retiring

Accepted with regret the resignation and retirement of Roger Treece, Shipping/Receiving Clerk, effective April 30. Treece is currently on State Universities Retirement System disability leave and has the opportunity to retire as of May 1. He was a student-worker at the college before being hired full-time in September, 1973.

Letters of resignation from two others accepted

Two other resignations were accepted with regret . . .

** Pinckneyville Correctional Center Small Business Management Instructor Mason Jackson, effective April 1.

** Groundskeeper Tyler Burkholder, effective April 7.

Speeding tickets near Children's Center doubled

Approved revisions to Administrative Procedures regarding Fees, in particular those related to tickets issued by campus security near the Rend Lake College Foundation Children's Center. Accordingly, speeding tickets issued within 500 feet of posted speed limits near the RLCF Children's Center will be double that of normal fees, which amount to $25 for speeds 1-5 miles per hour over the posted limit and $25 plus $1/mile over the posted limit for speeding in excess of 5 mph. Administrators hope to "strongly discourage individuals (from speeding) and help ensure the safety of children, staff and visitors near the center."

Comprehensive policy limits smoking to outside

Approved on second reading Administrative Policy regarding smoking on-campus. The established policy was upgraded to establish a comprehensive policy that permits smoking only in areas outside campus buildings.

Two Business Office job descriptions revised

Approved revisions to Administrative Procedures regarding two job descriptions within the Business Office. Revised descriptions and titles for Accountant - Human Resources and Financial and Accountant - Payroll and Financial will not affect the people or salaries in the current positions (Kim Rogers and Glenna Maxwell, respectively). Changes were made separating payroll and human resource functions "in an effort to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the processes involved while still maintaining proper compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations," according to administrative rationale.
