CORN EXCEEDS BRONZE LEVEL OF GIVING

12/08/2006

Cindy Corn was the first to be honored as a 2006 Major Gift Award winner Thursday night at the Rend Lake College Foundation’s Annual Dinner in Mt. Vernon.

Corn, a Health and Physical Education Professor at RLC, has gone beyond the $10,000 mark of giving back to the institution she has worked to improve for more than 15 years. For that achievement, she was given the Foundation’s Bronze Major Gift Award at the ceremony Thursday night.

She joined the Rend Lake College staff as the Fitness Center Coordinator on Aug. 18, 1989, and later became a Health and Physical Education instructor. In 1999, she started the women’s golf program and quickly took it to a place of national honor. During her tenure, the team won five Region XXIV crowns in seven years and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championships six of seven years, with a high finish of fourth place.

She is know back with the Warriors lady linksters, leading them once again toward their shot at an NJCAA Division I National Championship in the spring.

“In 1994, the Rend Lake College Foundation was embarking upon a new capital campaign,” explained RLC Foundation CEO Pat Kern. “Our fund raising consultants told us that before Rend Lake College can expect to ask community members for contributions, our own staff had to believe in giving to the college. Tonight, we are going to honor one of our own who believes in giving back.”

Corn has given back to the college and athletic department by supporting the Foundation’s capital campaign, RLC Foundation Children’s Center, RLC Staff Clocktower, Physical Education scholarships, women’s softball, and most of all the women’s golf team.

“Cindy’s passion for her team has been shown by the many fundraisers that she has held, establishing the team’s own booster club, and giving back to her own program,” Kern added. “She has exceeded the bronze $10,000 level of giving.”

RLC and the Foundation salute Corn for her continuing contributions in making the college the No. 1 fastest growing public, two-year college of its size in the nation.
