The Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center will join hundreds of local organizations around the country next week in celebration of Week of the Young Child.
Week of the Young Child honors the more than 35 million children from birth through age eight in America, as well as the families, teachers and other adults who help children make the most of the opportunities of their early years.
Research and experience clearly show that children’s earliest years are crucial learning years. Week of the Young Child is a chance to celebrate the learning opportunities of young children and to recognize the responsibilities we share for helping them make the most of their early years.
This year’s celebration theme is “Building Better Futures for All Children.”
The tentative schedule of RLC’s Week of the Young Child celebration starts Monday, April 3, with an open house and welcome at the Children’s Center which will last through the day.
“It’s a good chance for those who have never visited the Children’s Center to come out and look around,” said Peggy Dolce, Director of the Center.
Tuesday will be Child Appreciation Day, Wednesday is Student Appreciation Day, Thursday is Parent Appreciation Day and Friday is Staff Appreciation Day. Dolce said plans call for a picnic on Thursday if the weather cooperates, and there will be a parent-child garden-planting project as well. Children at the center also will have their artwork and other activities on display.
