INA, Ill. (February 8, 2024)—The automotive training program at Rend Lake College has been recognized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) as an accredited program. Master Status includes Automotive Brakes, Automotive Electrical/Electronic Systems, Automotive Engines, Automotive Engine Performance, Automotive Manual Drive Train and Axles, Automotive Suspension and Steering, Automotive Heating and Air Conditioning and Automatic Transmission and Transaxle.

To achieve this coveted recognition, the school’s automotive training program underwent rigorous evaluation by the ASE Education Foundation. Nationally accepted standards of excellence in areas such as instruction, facilities, and equipment were used.

Upon completion of the evaluation, RLC became accredited by the ASE Education Foundation. The ASE Education Foundation is a non-profit, independent organization that evaluates and accredits entry-level technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry.

“This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents,” said Michael Coley, ASE Education Foundation President. “Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that RLC’s graduates will be employable entry-level technicians. As a result of the quality education provided by RLC, the motoring public will benefit since better repair technicians will join the work force.”

RLC’s Automotive Professor Shannon Perkins talked on the importance of what it means to be accredited by ASE… “It keeps us current with industry standards.” He added, “Our goal is to train students so that they can go out with a knowledge of industry standards and be successful.”
