EXPLORE BIG TRUCK DAY AT RLC, COMING OCT. 15

10/04/2011

INA, Ill. (Oct. 4, 2011) – Parents won’t want their little ones to miss Big Truck Day, Oct. 15, at the Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center.

The event is being held from 9 a.m., to noon and will feature an open house, silent auction, petting zoo, bouncy house and, of course, big trucks! Center Director Brooke Pulke said they already have a fire truck, dump truck, railroad truck, semi and tractors booked for the event. And more are expected to be on hand for Big Truck Day.

“Our first Big Truck Day was a big hit last year,” Pulke said. “It’s so much fun to watch the children explore the massive equipment. They get to climb in and pretend they are driving. This year we’ve added a petting zoo and bouncy house, which are always popular with the kids. The purpose of Big Truck Day isn’t just to entertain the kids though. We want to provide parents a chance to visit the center and meet us while enjoying some free fun for the whole family.”

During Big Truck Day, parents will have a great opportunity to meet the center’s teachers and staff, and pre-register for child care in the Spring. The RLCF Children’s Center has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children for more than a decade. NAEYC accreditation is a widely-recognized sign of high quality in early childhood education programs. The RLCFCC was named a Quality Counts QRS Star Level 3 provider by the Illinois Department of Human Services last Spring. IDHS noted areas of particular excellence at the center, including space and furnishings, personal care routines, activities and interaction, language and reasoning, and structure toward children with disabilities.

Qualifying parents can save up to half off the center’s Pre-K rate through state grant opportunities, and students have the option of using grants and loans to pay childcare costs.
