RLC’s Chris Sink Honored Statewide as Educator of the Year

July 10, 2025

CHICAGO (July 10, 2025) — Chris Sink, Director of the Southern Illinois Manufacturing Academy (SIMA) at Rend Lake College, has been named the Illinois Manufacturers' Association (IMA) and Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center's (IMEC) Educator of the Year.

"I'm honored that I was recently named Educator of the Year by the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and IMEC," said Sink. "It came as a complete surprise, and I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition. Though, this recognition isn’t just about one person, it’s a celebration and acknowledgement of what we’ve accomplished together."

The IMA/IMEC Excellence Awards winners were honored and announced during the 2nd Annual Manufacturing Excellence Awards on June 26. These awards recognize and honor outstanding contributions within the manufacturing sector by highlighting a crucial aspect of excellence in manufacturing.

Sink said he is grateful for the support from retired RLC President Terry Wilkerson, current President Lori Ragland and Kim Wilkerson, Vice President of CTE & Student Support, and for their efforts to advance manufacturing in Southern Illinois.

“Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible team I’m fortunate to work with. Terry Wilkerson and Lori Ragland have been unwavering in their support and trust in our mission," said Sink. "Their leadership and belief have made all the difference. I also want to thank Kim Wilkerson, whose help in expanding our equipment and capabilities has been invaluable.

"What means the most, though, is knowing that we’re making a positive impact on our manufacturing partners, our communities, and most importantly, our students," shared Sink. "Helping connect people with real opportunities and supporting the growth of local industry is why we do what we do."

Under Sink's leadership, SIMA plays a crucial role in filling the skills gap and preparing workers for in-demand jobs by working in tandem with the RLC apprenticeship program. Through the apprenticeship program, students advance their skill sets while receiving industry-aligned education to meet industry and employer needs as they graduate from RLC.
