RLC 2025 Student Trustee Election: Details & Key Dates

INA, Ill. (January 27, 2025) — Interested in running for Rend Lake College's next Student Trustee? The period to file as a candidate opens Wednesday, February 12. The RLC Student Trustee represents the student body on the RLC Board of Trustees, attending meetings each month and having an advisory vote on all action items.

In order to be a candidate, you must submit a petition, a statement of candidacy and a receipt for economic interest statement to the Student Services Office.

  1. The Petition with 50 or more signatures of students, must be properly filled in, signed, and notarized.
  2. The Statement of Candidacy must be properly filled in, signed, and notarized.
  3. Complete the Statement of Economic Interest and turn it in to the Student Services Office. We will get it filed at the Country Clerk’s Office for you and attach the receipt to your Petition and Statement of Candidacy.
Qualifications
  • A student trustee must reside within the Rend Lake College District.
  • At the time of the election and during service as a trustee, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and have accumulated 12 credit hours prior to election.
  • The student member cannot be a full-time employee at Rend Lake College.
  • The student must have an overall grade point average of 2.0 or better at the time of election and during service as a trustee.

To receive a candidate packet, students can pick one up at the Academic Advisement Center in the Baker Administration Building on the Ina Campus.

Alternatively, you can request one to be sent electronically by emailing Henry Buster Leeck: leeckh@rlc.edu.

Key Dates
  • First day for filing: Wednesday, February 12 - 8:00 a.m.
  • Last day for filing: Wednesday, February 26 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Last day to withdraw Candidacy: Friday, February 28
  • Absentee Voting: Tuesday, March 4
  • Election Days: Wednesday, March 5 & Thursday, March 6

Absentee voting will take place in the Academic Advisement Center from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The election will take place in the Academic Advisement Center from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm both days. 

This is a great opportunity for RLC students who are motivated to serve and get involved in the college's decision-making process. Be sure to meet the qualifications and file during the designated time period. All the information and resources needed to run for the office can be found in the candidate packet.
