RLCF CHILDREN'S CENTER DIRECTOR PULKE EARNS MULTIPLE PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS

BROOKE PULKE

INA, Ill. – Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center Director Brooke Pulke of Tamaroa has received a Gateways to Opportunity ECE Credential Level 5, the Infant Toddler Credential Level 5, and the Illinois Director Credential Level II. Gateways credentials are recognized by the state of Illinois and are awarded through the Illinois Department of Human Services Bureau of Child Care and Development.

The ECE Credential, Infant Toddler Credential and the Illinois Director Credential are awarded based on the educational level, knowledge, skills and experience of practitioners and administrators in the early care and education profession. Gateways to Opportunity administers several credentials: The Level 1 Credential, the Illinois Director Credential, the ECE Credential, and the Infant Toddler Credential. The goal of Gateways to Opportunity is the development of a system where early care and education, school-age, and youth development practitioners are recognized for their professional development and achievements.

On Jan. 21, 2010, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed the Gateways to Opportunity credentials into law. It was an important step in allowing other state agencies to recognize and potentially embed Gateways Credentials within program requirements. Now, more than ever before, Gateways Credentials are an important part of professional development throughout one’s career.

Pulke, 31, has been the center’s director for the past 18 months. As director, she is responsible for activities such as grant writing, staffing, maintaining the operating budget and conducting parent orientations, activities and involvement.

“This is an important step in my professional development,” she said. “And I think it speaks to everyone’s commitment to high quality here at the center.”

The RLCF Children’s Center is open to anyone seeking child care. It includes classrooms for infants, toddlers and pre-Kindergarten ages, and accepts school-age children during the summer term. To contact the center, call 618-437-5321, Ext. 1393.
